The Grass is Only Greener if you Maintain it

This warm summer weather tends to create two problems for homeowners; either it dries out their lawn or its hikes up their utility bill from over watering the grass. So this week we thought we would do a quick recap on lawn maintenance by sharing a few tips that we give our homeowners!

Have you just sodded your lawn:

If you’ve just sodded your lawn, then we recommend that you water the sodded area immediately. Our experts say that one liter of water in the first hour does more than six liters of water three hours later. If you’ve received a landscape package with Cedarglen Homes, then we take care of this by immediately watering your lawn for you. We also suggest trying not to walk on sod while it’s still wet as it can create uneven areas. Initially you should water the sod daily for the first four days and then continue to water it every second day for four days. On very hot days, water twice – once in the morning and once in the evening, for shorter periods. Once the above schedule is done you can continue watering as needed.

When it comes to mowing your newly sodded lawn, you’ll want to wait three weeks to ensure that it has properly taken root. Once you’ve reached the three week period, no more than 1/3 of the grass height should be removed at one time.

Your lawn is already sodded:

If your lawn is already sodded then we recommended watering it three times a week, but remember to adjust your watering schedule according to the weather (i.e. water more often in the dry weather and less often when it rains). We also suggest watering the sod early in the morning as there’s less wind, less hot sun, and it keeps your lawn moist throughout the day! Keep the lawn height maintained at roughly 1½ inches. During extremely warm temperatures, it is best to keep your lawn slightly longer as longer grass is more tolerant to heat and will not dry out as quickly.
The grass can easily be greener if you maintain!

Have a good weekend,
