Decorating a home can easily become overwhelming. With plenty of options to choose from, it’s hard to choose just one style. For instance, I love the look of contemporary clean lines but there is something that feels incredibly cozy when it comes to a traditionally decorated home. How can you get the best of both styles in your home? Easy, with a transitional style, where both extremes meet comfortably in the middle. Transitional is a term that we are hearing more and more in interior design, so we thought why not introduce it in this week’s blog. Transitional style is a growing trend that blends both traditional and contemporary styles. The end result is a timeless home that is both comfortable and classic.
Majority of our homeowners go with transitional interior selections when building a home as it caters to a wide range of people. It’s a versatile way to ensure your home can adapt to anything later on. Colors to best achieve this look vary between cooler or warmer neutrals along with soft finishes. Then, using furniture and accessories you can have fun mixing and matching traditional and modern pieces to create your transitional home. Main pieces of furniture are normally kept neutral but pops of color and patterns can be integrated through pillows, an area rug, art or even an upholstered ottoman.Different fabrics such as leather, suede and linen, are also popular ways to introduce more texture into the room.
To see how the end result comes together I’ve included a few examples.
Here we have a transitional style kitchen. The white cabinets and tile look a bit more traditional but with the dark framed windows along with the kitchen table and chairs add a modern element. The room feels clean but still inviting.
This great room shows a neutral palette with a great traditional ottoman pairing up with the metal side table and a great mix of patterns.
So if you’ve found yourself too traditional to be contemporary and vice versa, I hope you find the perfect balance with transitional style. If you’re unsure if this is the style for you, click here to try taking an interior style quiz!
